Why are we forced to review renters?

We are the service provider, the renter is the customer. I understand why renters might be required to leave reviews - so other renters can gauge whether they might want to rent from us. But why do I have to leave a review of the renter? As long as the renter doesn’t trash the place and follows the basic rules, my opinion of them is irrelevant. I really don’t care if they have a weird attitude or whatever - our job is to service them as clients. Restaurants don’t require waitstaff to leave reviews of customers. And who reads reviews of renters anyway? I cannebver think of anything to say,
A better option would be to have a the ability for us to provide feedback to Peerspace if a renter was genuinely abusive or damaged things etc. - which Peerspace could track and block multiple offenders. But other than that I don’t see the point of reviewing my customers.

I always check reviews of renters. If people say something real I pay attention.
I personally go a little easy on the reviews, nobody has been terrible. I had a large rapper that sat on our fiberglass race car once but he didn’t rent from me, the renter was actually pretty nice and they left a car and that ended up in Vogue. I did not even report the guys that told me they weren’t going to smoke the bong they were packing in the house, because they did not rent from me.
Usually the “bad behavior” is not the actual renters, sometimes they have never actually met the talent.
I hate that I have to write the review quickly, I am not sure if it has changed but I have ran into several problems being forced to write the review quickly.
Also I like to take the time to say what they did, like, photo or video, big crew or small.
When I see a review that says they were “good”, or something that takes no effort, it means nothing to me at all.
If a review says something revealing, then it holds some weight.

It’s helpful to know from other service providers if a potential renter is someone who will treat your property with respect. Unfortunately, in my case, most customers are first-time renters on Peerspace, so they don’t have a history to really know if they will respect your property or house rules so you are really taking a chance if they will be decent or not.

I’m in same boat as Stacy. Almost everyone of my rentals is a first time renter. They signed up that day lol. But their email has been verified so they are definitely cool!

So I kind of don’t see the point of renter reviews because 90% of renters would just open a new profile if they got a bunch of bad reviews. Like I said, you can just sign up that day and get your email verified and you are good to go. Just create a new gmail account.

One thing I’ve gotten multiple times on this site is someone asking me for a big discount or for me to go below our minimum rental hours. Then when I say no, I’ll get an almost identical request from another account shortly after except the approach is slightly different (more professional, or polite, different sob story, etc). And of course all these account were created that day or that same month.

I guess if it is a photographer or agency that rents locations frequently it would be helpful to have some reviews on them. But that is really the only instance where I can think it would be handy.
