I just had a horrible rental and it’s really tempting to blast them in the review but I’m afraid they’ll double back and review me on google or yelp. It’s a bummer to not feel free to tell the truth about how the experience was… has the rebound revenge reviews ever affected anyone?
Leslie, I really urge you to leave an honest review. Other hosts rely on reviews, and really need to know if someone is out of line. I’ve rarely had a bad experience with guests, but one time I did have to leave a negative review. I don’t think the person even read it for a couple of months until they tried to book again, and then they did send me an apology for their behavior. Virtually every business has some bad reviews. Often, when I’m doing business with a new company I’ll look now just at the five star reviews but at the one star reviews and my reaction to the ones is usually: “This person sounds like an impossible customer.” Your fellow host really do need to know about your experience.
I agree with everything Anne said. And as far as your worry about badmouthing you on google or yelp–nobody renting will even look there. They will look at the reviews on Peerspace and they cannot even see your review until they’ve written one. Add to that the fact that Peerspace removes “revenge” reviews and you’re safe.
I once had an awful customer who booked outside of any booking site. She told me she knew everyone in Hollywood and was going to badmouth me all over the internet, etc. etc. After her threat, I actually received more bookings that ever, so obviously whatever this B**** said or did had no negative repercussions for me.
As Anne said, you owe it to us other hosts to tell the truth. For all we know, possibly some previous host’s fears led to this bad experience for you.
