Questions to Ask Before Production Booking

HI! In order to ensure guests and hosts are on the same page prior to the start of a booking, what are the most important questions to ask before accepting a production booking? Is it important to ask what equipment they will be bringing?

The biggest issues I’ve had have been around groups not wanting to get a filming permit, asking if we can waive it or conveniently ignoring that it’s one of our rules.

Other things I’d love to know ahead of time:

  • will their production include any fires or incendiary devices
  • what time is shooting going to (v. cleanup)
  • how big is their cast and/or crew?

Hi Zoe - I am so glad you have asked this!

Yes - I ask what kind of equipment they will be bringing in.
Some other questions I sometimes ask:
Props/set builds/picture vehicle(s)?
Stunts?
Food situation (catered or delivery)?
Bringing additional power source (generator)?
How many vehicles?
Live music or playback (music video)

I don’t ask about EQ: I do ask: what’s this for/about, hours, total # of ppl, COI (must have insurance), vehicles, COVID rules, which areas/rooms, and can provide my security deposit.

Good question. I should be asking the same since we get a lot of video productions. They usually just tell us how many people coming and bring their equipment. We assume they will anyway but sometimes they go overboard. We had one group using flour to make a sign on the ground and candles which kind of melted on our floors but luckily the group was super nice and cleaned up all their mess. It’s scary on what can happen when you don’t know. I like to know all of it beforehand.
