Peerspace making Instagram ads

I’m happy to see that Peerspace’s instagram account is becoming more active and engaging, it seems they’ve hired a new team and are jumping on Reels and such.
But is anyone seeing the instagram paid ads they’ve created?
Cause they’re kinda, no offense, really strangely put together.

I saw one of my own studio pop up in my feed, created by them. The photos they chose to promote are so outdated (out of the hundreds we have available in our listing), the prices were wrong and it was just generally lousy looking.

Just saw this ad today (posted below) and i’m just so confused at how they’re selecting these photos. So many studios have such amazing spaces to offer and they’re out here showing a corner of a rug and close up of a light to advertise “amazing views” of your business with possibly incorrect titles and prices.

Social Media can be a game changer, so it’s awesome that they’re using our businesses to promote their business as that helps everyone but…how are they making these rookie mistakes?

I agree. Odd choices.

Thank you for sharing this as I had similar thoughts recently. It would be amazing if their social media team made sure to check all the info of each studio they are about to share before making a paid ad out of it. It would also be ideal if they are going to do a carousel of various studios that they at least choose a photo that represents the spaces entirety more so than a close up of a neon sign or the corner of a rug. People are less likely to click on that so it feels like a missed opportunity for all parties. I’m also glad they seem to be trying to use social media more but hopefully they can just vet their info and make sure the photos make the most sense for the space. Maybe their team can have a meeting about this convo and try to implement better social media strategy so all parties benefit?

Hi Everyone! :wave:t5:

Thanks for your feedback! These are dynamic retargeting ads that show a varying range of images based on your onsite activity. Because hosts spend much more time on Peerspace than guests do and navigate our site in different ways, you are seeing a different collection of ads than our guests typically see. In an effort to improve ad performance while minimizing confusion here, the marketing team is refining its ad targeting now to better target our advertising towards guests only.

Hi Janae,

I’m not understanding. My personal Instagram account is not connected to my Peerspace hosting account at all. Different name, different email, different business. I am also a guest of Peerspace.
Why would an IG account run by someone who hosts a studio on Peerspace see ads with bad photos and incorrect information but then a guest potentially see something better? Sorry if I’m misunderstanding what you explained.

From the ad carousel I saw on IG of my own studio (posted by Peerspace, seen from my personal account) it was the photos that I uploaded to my listing on the first day, 3 years ago, when we went live to Peerspace. They were the first uploads but are currently spaced out in between the many much newer and better photos among our listing album. The price advertised on the IG ad was also from 3 years ago.

Hi @Smac_M

I’m happy to provide clarification!

The retargeting ads you’re seeing are based on what listings you view on our site, and how often you view them (regardless which account you’re using). When Meta perceives a user’s higher than normal interest in a specific listing – say if one is a host who frequently views their own listing on Peerspace – it will serve them more photos from that listing even if they are older photos. Guests do not view individual listings as frequently as hosts view their own listings, and this is why there is a difference in who sees what.

The prices should be accurate though, and this is something our team can investigate.

Don’t worry about Peerspace’s IG ads.

IG does have over 1.5 billion users, but time on the app is on the decline. Research shows that users (especially in the money-spending under 35 audience) are frustrated by too many ads and the fact that anyone can “promote” content onto their page. I know I certainly am.

Users are migrating to TikTok. Some are spending up to 10x as much time on the app vs IG. Meta has stopped reporting a lot of metrics in an effort to obfuscate this shift.

That said, I do spend approx 25-30%, of my yearly ad budget on IG (this cost includes using a service that allows me to pre-plan my posts months in advance). One booking can pay for good 6-8 months and I control the branding and messaging.

You’re okay with your studio being completely misrepresented? Photos, titles and prices promoted incorrectly?
Doesn’t really matter what we all think about IG ads or how successful they can and can’t be, Peerspace are using them and are using our studios, without our permission, to promote the business as a whole so if they’re going to do that i’d rather call them out for doing it badly then let my business be advertised incorrectly without my input.

I only worry about things I can control. That’s why I run my own IG ads.

Regarding permission to use your images, see section 2.4 of the Peerspace host user agreement.

“You grant Peerspace a fully-paid, worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual license to use, copy, transmit, distribute, modify, publicly display, and sublicense any Content you provide to us. This grant includes our ability to use any Content for both internal use (such as analysis to improve the Platform or Services) or external use (such as in marketing or online advertising).”

We all run our own ads. It’s valid to worry about the things we can’t control when they directly involve our business being presented inaccurately.

We’re not asking them to not use our material, just asking why they aren’t using it correctly.
And looking out for fellow hosts who unfortunately have embarrassing and misleading ads on the internet that maybe they weren’t aware of.

You’re worrying about how the deck chairs look on the Titanic.

We all want to protect our business and brand. Reading up on how IG’s dynamic ads work might help you worry less. What you see is not exactly what everyone sees. Even if your IG accounts are not connected with the same email, if you’re using them on the same device they know its you. If you use Facebook on your phone as well, forget it. Meta is everywhere in our digital lives.

Who knows, you may have been served those blue pix because you looked at blue things recently. Or worse… talked to a friend about liking something blue and IG overheard you. I get served ads for things I recently talked about all the time.

Regardless, I would wager that you missed out on exactly zero bookings because of Peerspace’s IG ads.

You’re missing the point.

Don’t put a photo of a studio then advertise it with someone else’s business name and rates.
There is an issue with how these are being autogenerated and Peerspace is looking into it.

Peerspace markets for Peerspace, not us.
