Guest who booked does not attend + verifying identity

Hi PS community - it has happened twice now that a guest books and does not attend but instead other guests attend the shoot. How can we prevent this from happening? Is there a rule about this on Peerspace?
Also, how long before Peerspace can properly identify guest identity?
Thanks all!

Because there are some unscrupulous people in this world and they may use Peerspace, I always exercise caution. Prior to the actual booking, I communicate only through Peerspace. I verify that the person booking is going to be there. I require that the profile picture has the person’s actual profile or they provide some sort of way of verifying they are who they say they are. I require an outline of the production, and if there’s anyone else who is in charge that day ( in addition to the one who is booking). Since I’m adamant about details, there’s no way a fraudster is going to bother with me. If for whatever reason they slip thru the cracks , I have peerspace messages to prove they defrauded me.

What kind of issue are you describing?

  • A person, usually a producer, books your space for a shoot, they then send a director and crew to conduct the shoot, and the producer does not show up in person to the booking
    OR
  • The exact same thing, only they don’t tell you upfront

If they do not disclose the other guests it is a violation of Peerspace rules and you can file a complaint BUT…if that is the only issue, what is the concern? Did they do something else that caused a problem or is this just an issue of someone booking the space for another person?

The way you’ve described this complaint, it doesn’t sound like much of an issue, so if you could provide more details, the community will be able to provide better advice.

As far as identity verification:

Are you asking for Peerspace to develop a way to verify a guests’ identity when they arrive at your venue?
OR
Are you asking when Peerspace will verify guests identities on the app?

I think Christopher has a point. And I am also not sure of what the issue is. I always speak to the booking person on the phone. I ask whether they will be at the shoot. Often, as Christopher explained, they will not. Sometimes it’s even someone in New York or London who books for the crew here. So I am also wondering what your issue is. Have you had a problem with that?

I have producers based in LA, Chicago, London, etc book my space, but then send a crew to film or shoot without ever showing up themselves. Has never been a problem nor do I have an issue with it. I do ask for a day-of contact if they are not planning on being on set.

Have never had this issue with events. For weddings or other celebrations I also require that the person that booked (usually the bride or groom) provide a contact person other than themselves. The last thing I want to do is interrupt the bride with a report about guests not putting bottles in the recycling can or whatever. I’ve found this helps assure my rules are followed while making sure the person who booked has a good time… and provides a review that says so.

Thanks to all who answered this. Sounds like these experiences happen with just ameteur producers - seemingly mysterious & unusually unresponsive (i.e. not available for a brief phone call before shoot). The solution is simple, just clarify that there is always a contact person on site.

I only do film shoots, music videos or productions in my location. I request a call sheet for each day of the shoot and ask that I am included on the call sheet. I indicate that this is necessary for COVID tracking should someone test positive afterward. I also ask that they have a negative covid test before the shoot. Most production companies have no problem with these requirements.
