I haven’t seen this specific questions asked so I will ask it here.
I offer the 8+ discount but is this discount applied per daily rental or total rental?
I have an inquirer who has rented for seven hours per day for two days however the 8+ discount was applied.
In this case, I also noticed the cleaning fee was only applied once not per day. Is this how it is supposed to charge? I assumed the cleaning fee would automatically be applied per day. I guess I could create a custom offer but I wanted to see if I was missing something.
@Jamila_A Welcome to the host forum! Happy to have you here!
Feel free to check out our support article on 8+ hour bookings here!
But other hosts may also jump in with other helpful tips!
Just had a look at the rules. It doesn’t really specify. But as to the cleaning fee: For me, if the days are consecutive I only ask for one fee. However, I do not clean after the first day so I only clean once. I hope that helps.
I think the 8+ hour discount is for an 8-hour DAY. Otherwise, any shoot that took longer than a day, for ex. any two or 3 day shoot, the discount would be applied and I don’t think that is the case. I have never offered nor been asked to offer a break if the shoot took more than 8 hours TOTAL, and they almost always do (especially films) . The point of the discount is to give people needing more than 8 hours/day a break, and encourage them to use this platform. Here is the wording: "Encourage your guests to book longer by giving a discount for bookings that are 8 hours or more.’’ I know that isn’t specifically broken down but to my mind it is definitely about more than an 8 hour DAY.
Re. the cleaning, I always thought it was a one time fee - for either cleanup before or after a shoot, but not every single day. The place shouldn’t get so dirty/messy that cleaning needs to be done after each day. I only expect it once. But a custom offer you come up with could work well.
Jamila, since Zoe just pointed you back to the article, I’ve reviewed the rules and detailed how this process works below:
the 8+ hour discount is applied to the entire booking
if a client includes multiple days in the same booking it counts as (1) single continuous booking
any continuous booking that meets the 8+ hours gets the discount applied to the entire booking
cleaning fees and other one-off fees only apply once to each booking, regardless of length (this includes any equipment rental or amenities you charge extra for like parking spots)
In order to charge extra cleaning fees or multiple days for amenities, etc. you will need to offer a custom booking.
Be sure to tell the client something along the lines of:
“Thank you for the booking request! I have created a custom estimate for you to review. Because you are booking for multiple days, I have added the following fees to your estimate and applied the following discount: [List fees and discount]. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the pricing.”
Then, if they ask why the pricing is different, simply explain: “The Peerspace app is great, but it has some limitations and is unable to apply one-time fees like our cleaning fee to multi-day bookings, so I have to add them manually and send a custom estimate. Hope that clears things up.”
Most people should understand, but just be firm and polite if they don’t.
Personally, I would typically allow a multi-day booking like this to get the 8+ hour discount even with a custom booking, especially if they added a bunch of gear or services, but you should do what’s best for your location and clientele. We have pretty mild clients and there are enough local alternatives that right now we’re being very generous with bookings.
If you get a lot of people who stretch their time or use a lot of utilities or cause excessive cleaning, it might not be worth it to extend the discount to two back-to-back 7-hour days. You won’t be able to get another booking in on either day so 7 hours might as well be a full-day booking.
I have an offer that is 8+ and the discount was applied. After I accepted, now they’re coming back with my budget is only $— and I need 12hrs!
My question is, do I now apply an hourly charge for anything after that 8hr period? Or do I just create a custom offer/negotiate a different price altogether, since they are basically asking for a break.
It is a small filming company and of course, on a tight budget. But to go from 8hrs to 12hrs with the same price or lower doesn’t sit well with me.
Please let me know if anyone has experienced this at all.
That’s just unprofessional on their part, and if they are already making requests (demands) like that, they could be problematic. You could give them a small discount on the additional hours, but I don’t think I would. They have now presented themselves as a group that will stay longer than the time they book and expect not to pay. And who knows what other rules they will push against.
Thank you Brad, I appreciate your advice. I actually went back to them and offered a custom offer that was a little more than they wanted to pay, but much much less than what it would have been. Needless to say, I haven’t heard back from them. This is the second filming company that asked for the same timing and budget, very strange.
