Can I get some suggestions on how you charge if an event wants to go to 2am in the morning? Do you charge time and a half of your hourly rate? Do you double up your hourly rate?
The event ends at 2am. I’m still there until 3am for clean-up. I need to be fair to our space and staff for accommodating these hours. What’s your rate? Process? Thanks in advance for your comments.
I just started charging x1.5 for any hours after 11:00 PM. However, as of this moment I have not had any bookings that late so I haven’t had a chance to test it. I would also love to hear from others on this subject.
When I first started hosting around 4 years ago, I let parties go after midnight. And the late parties were always my least favorite part of hosting. For my space, I ultimately decided that we only accept parties that start winding down by 11:15pm or so, with everyone out of the space by midnight. I want to ensure that we do not disturb neighbors, and I don’t want to deal with drunk guests late at night.
Sounds like late events work for your space, so charge whatever you need to ensure it is worth accepting those bookings. 1.5x sounds like a good start, be safe!
For productions, studio business hours are 8am to 8pm. Bookings outside of that are 1.5x standard rate. Overtime is 2x.
I find this is a good way to keep my base rate friendly while also feeling compensated for working early or late hours.
I rarely accept productions that run past 9pm. I get a lot of requests for video shoots that want to go until 12am. I usually avoid those by not taking productions that start after 8pm.
