My space is primarily used for our outside convening/parties. I have been upfront and transparent about not letting folks into our private resident to use the bathroom due to Covid concerns. I instead list alternatives (cafes, restaurants) around the neighborhood.
Is this bad practice? Has anyone else been having similar experiences?
Hi Jared I totally understand your concerns at this time, but I think you have to provide a restroom to keep your guests happy especially since guests will review their experience with you. As a previous retail small business owner I’d be a bit irate if I owned one of the local businesses and learned a neighbor was sending people over to use the restroom. They often have to clean and provide supplies in the restrooms for their paying customers. Hope that perspective helps! Best to you.
Please don’t take this the wrong way Jared, but I was shocked that you could have a party outdoors and not allow restroom usage. I would be far out of business if I ever did that. It’s more than a dealbreaker, I’d say.
Thank you Jennifer for your response on this and very much appreciate you giving the perspective on the local businesses. I think you are absolutely right here. I think I’ll have to give reconsideration on listing during this time.
Thank you Tommy for your response, I’m quickly finding out that it’s quite unreasonable to request this of guests. I’ll be rethinking how I do reservations during this time.
Hi @Jared_C
If possible and you have room I suggest that you look into portable restroom rentals.
There is the option to book by the day, week or month. You could offer it as a part of the rental and increase your hourly rate to cover costs.
I am not sure how much they rent for - I would ‘shop around’ to get a feel for prices.
We do a lot of Elopements in our Gardens and offer a greenroom and a restroom for small gatherings – up to 12. But afternoon Garden Parties Renters are required to rent a portable Toilet (average low end $200-$300 weekend. Luxury $2500/day)but we provide a hand washing station. I also agree with Skira_M raise your hourly, rent a porta-potty its totally worth it.
I have an outdoor space only also. I rent it out for only photo shoots which usually last one hour. I make it clear in my space description that there are no bathroom facilities onsite, but portable restrooms are available for rent. There are public restrooms within 1/2 mile from the space. In the 2 years that I have been on Peerspace, it has never been an issue nor has anyone asked for a rented portable one. I have all 5 star ratings. But as said, my space is usually used for very short periods of time.
