Just got weird request. The guest contacted me late in the afternoon. He wanted to book for the same night from around 8 to 7:30 the next morning. He said he had late night business to conduct. He wanted a place for his laptop and access to the bedroom. I spoke to him on the phone. He sounded either stoned or tired. He explained that around 4 or 5 people would be coming, but all at different times. I wish I had asked him what his business was before I declined. But I’m guessing it was something along the lines of prostitution.
Definitely an odd scenario. Why jump to prostitution? I guess I don’t know the business. Wouldn’t it make more sense to rent a hotel room then weird give details to you? Now I’m curious about your listing as to why a pimp would want your location. Do you say in your listing description you are not on location? I’ve seen your posts and know you are experienced. and definitely don’t want to mistakenly get into a bad situation. I’ve had an inquiry where the renter wanted access to the bedroom only ( filming) and the renter let me know the actors were over 18…No one rents my place for the bedroom and it definitely made me think that a porn would be shot here, I responded with letting him know that’s a first for me as there’s no need to know any ones ages and I needed an outline of production. Never heard back from him. It was also for a date in a few days.
Sharon: You are right. It would make more sense to rent a hotel or an airbnb. He was unaware that this was my home and I would be there. But my guess is that a hotel will be more likely to see what’s happening and he doesn’t want that. An airbnb might have been more difficult to get on such late notice. I jumped to prostitution because the guests would be coming one by one. And then the laptop and bedroom would make sense. I used to have an airbnb and I’m quite certain that one girl was doing exactly that. There was a second girl there at times and men of all types coming one at a time. It was a separate apartment, but I had to pass it from time to time, so I could see what was going on. In the review, she complained about the lack of privacy.
This inquiry sounded a lot like that. Or perhaps drug dealing? Either way, I felt he was up to no good.
P.S. He never mentioned filming. He just said he had some “late night business.” This is yet another example of why I never accept a booking without first speaking to the person. Again, his voice was a clue that this was a fishy individual.
So I had 3 unusual bookings where I think there were prostitution or some sort of sec act. I have in my listing that I have cameras but guess they didn’t pay attention. So this type of activity isn’t that unusual unfortunately. Not sure why they choose peerspace over Airbnb but I have some thoughts as to why.
That sounds suspiciously like a lead we got over on ■■■■■■■ on 4/9 from “Winn J.” “…doesn’t usually use Air BnB,” and we’re not an Air BnB lol
"Hello
Your place came up first when I searched places in the area and instantly connected with it. The view, the space, the location, the style is simply amazing, and if its vacant TODAY, i’m willing to start the booking process now. my trip is for business purposes. I have been looking for an space as I need a place where I can comfortably work on my laptop and have access to a bedroom and a workplace. I don’t usually use Airbnb but I found your lovely place and thought it would be the perfect home away from home!"
PS Azhia. You say that you had a couple of bookings like that. Did you actually take the bookings? If so, when you saw them on the cameras what did you do?
