Variable Rate For Cleaning Fees

It would be great to have an option to charge different cleaning fees based on the project. We charge a very small flat fee but since we have a very large space so the booking could be anything from just a photographer and one model to a film crew and cast of 40-50. It would be unfair to increase the fee and have the smaller bookings pay the same as the very large bookings.
A similar system like the one based on number of guest coming where we can add to the base rate would be great.

@Lorenzo_A You can offer a one-time, custom base-rate to guests that have inquired about your space but will require a different cleaning rate.

Hosts are required to clearly detail any costs or special rates associated with booking the space in the About the Space section of your listing. If you have standard variable rates, based on day of week or time of day, use the variable pricing feature to set these rates for your listing. Likewise, if you price your space based on number of attendees, use the attendee pricing feature to set tiered rates.

Learn more about how to price your space here.

Important: Peerspace’s standard service fee of 15% is included on all bookings, including custom prices you offer to potential guests.

How to offer a custom base rate:

  1. Visit your Peerspace Inbox
  2. Open the thread with the guest you would like to offer a custom base rate
  3. Click “Create Custom Offer” and enter in the changes
  4. If no add-ons need to be applied, click through “Continue to Add-ons” to “Continue to review booking." Learn more about adding additional services here.
  5. Write a note to the guest detailing the changes and click “Send Custom Offer”

What happens next:

  1. Your guest will be notified of your custom offer
  2. They will have two days to accept or decline
  3. If they accept the offer, it becomes a confirmed booking
  4. If they decline or the offer expires, you can make another offer

You can review, edit, or withdraw your offer at any point (before the guest accepts) by clicking “Review offer details.”

What this host and others are asking is whether you have plans to improve the system. When you answer questions about the system’s infrastructure with a copy-paste explanation of how to create a custom booking, it comes across as dismissive and condescending - any host using Peerspace regularly is already aware that they can offer custom bookings and rates.

Your answer should be in the form of:
“that’s a great idea and we’ll work on it/are working on it and here’s the timeline”
OR
“no, we don’t have any plans to do that at this time, but you can adjust cleaning fees using a custom booking, and be sure to include details on how you calculate your fees in your rules.”

To the original question: It would be far simpler and more streamlined for both guests and hosts if Peerspace would simply code the cleaning fees to be capable of scaling along with guest count. Many hosts would like that option and several have expressed direct interest using these forums.

Asking us to create custom bookings for larger-than-basic guest-counts is both time consuming for hosts and causes conflicts with guests who don’t understand why they’re being told the cleaning fee is different.

Guests get angry and confused and feel like this is a “bait and switch” move by the host, and the host cannot adequately excuse the conflict by blaming Peerspace’s system. Guests always blame the host.

It should be fairly simple to apply the same coding to the cleaning fees as you do to the guest count…what we’d like to know is if you intend to make this type of improvement and if so, the timeline to completion, even if it is a long way out.

Peerspace’s primary goal with regards to system operations should be to continuously improve the system so more hosts join the platform and more guests feel comfortable transacting on the platform. The more you allow for conflict between guests and hosts, the less likely hosts are to use the system, and the less likely guests are to trust Peerspace. This should be an easy fix, so we would appreciate you looking into the matter and providing a timeline.

@Christopher_D You are correct that the current solutions to this need is to add a higher cleaning fee through a custom offer, or add tiered attendee pricing to your listing. At this very moment, adding a tiered cleaning feature is not on the road map for the platform. But this is all great feedback. I can pass this along to see if this is something we could add in the future.
