I have a photo studio and sometimes a client can incur a fee for adding additional background paper to their shoot. In a recent case, I noticed that the payout for this extra charge was reduced. Is peerspace now taking a cut of the extra charges. I haven’t had this happen before?
Yes, I noticed this too. They used to not charge a fee for add-ons, and now they do. Which in my opinion is problematic in certain instances. Specifically in the cases where people need to reimburse you for something, all of a sudden they need to pay 20% more than the item’s value??? Also, it can be difficult to bill subcontractors at 20-25% more than they are worth. I’m happy giving PeerSpace a fair cut for finding a client, but I feel certain “extras” should have a smaller fee, and some (like reimbursements) should not have any extra fees.
I would like to keep all payments on the PeerSpace platform if possible, but a 20% added fee often makes guests want to pay us directly. Plus it really pisses off some subcontractors when they talk to the guest about money directly (and people do talk).
Anyways, just my two cents.
Peer"SPACE", not Peer"STUFF". I never do production related add-ons.
I only do very limited add-ons through Peerspace for events where it simplifies the process for regular people. For photo/film productions, all add-ons go through me.
The equipment rental business is super competitive and add-ing the % on top to cover the fee would murder that part of my business.
