This is insane. I had a renter today at 4PM and Peerspace allows the cancellation less than one hour prior (3:05PM) ???
I arranged my calendar, cleaned the area and turned down work for nothing???

We totally understand your concern regarding guest cancellations. I’d be happy to explain!
We have developed the Peerspace cancellation policy so that it provides some flexibility for guests while still providing security for a host who has reserved their space for the guest.
You have the option to select your preferred cancellation policy for the bookings you accept. In the event that a guest does cancel their booking with you, your payout is calculated based on the policy you’ve chosen.
In the case of the booking you’ve mentioned, you will still receive your full payout (excluding the cleaning fee), since the cancellation was submitted just 1 hour before the booking start time, well outside time frame to receive a refund for even the most flexible policy.

I do understand why you keep the cleaning fee. But in reality, the cleaning fee mostly goes towards getting the site ready. In fact, it would be great if you called it a prep & cleaning fee. Sometimes guests have said that they will leave the place clean, so could I forgo that fee. I then have to explain that in reality, it’s a prep fee. Once I’ve explained that, they do understand.
Anyhow, therefore, if the guest is booking less than one day prior to the booking, I would suggest that it’s fair to not refund the cleaning fee. Especially if you rename it prep & cleaning.
Agreed, we call it a Prep/Cleaning Fee in our communications letting guests know we are prepping and cleaning before and after the booking. Perhaps the timing of the cancelation could determine whether the cleaning fee is refunded: last minute cancelations do not get the cleaning fee returned, but those with more notice do? For example, No return if less than 24 hours notice? or 48?
