Would you add brand photos to your photo section?

We’ve had a few different brands shoot at our house and some of the photos came out really beautiful! We asked if they could send us the photos (which they did) and if they were okay with us posting the photos on our listing (they were okay with it).
Is that a normal thing to do?
Does it look weird to have your regular house photos and then perfectly shot brand photos as well? We just wanted to showcase how great the house looks in photos from our past shoots.
Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

I think it’s a great idea to post any professional photos that show off your space! The only reason I can think of that people might think could hinder your bookings is brand competitors. But for real, if a brand or company have an issue with another brand being shot there then they wouldn’t be booking locations on Peerspace anyway!

I don’t see the issue with this. We have a studio that we rent but we also do our own photo and video shoots in there. There have been many times when we’ve taken great, unique shots of a model and they’ve asked if they could use the photo on their site or in their resume. Kind of the same thing. This is how beautiful I can look under the guidance of professionals! lol If you have awesome pics of your place and the brand doesn’t mind, I don’t see any issue.

Definitely do your homework on the brand though to make sure you are cool with all of their business… you are associating with that brand now and if they do something shady, there is always the risk that comes back to you in some weird way. You don’t want to post awesome fashion photos in your space only to find our that company is a notorious sweatshop or connoisseur something and you are now associated with that.

This is great advice. What if your home had been used in a movie or TV show? I’m hesitant to do that because I don’t want the risk of strangers showing up at my home because they’re a fan…. Am I doing myself a disservice by not posting those photos?

Hi everyone - I actually have another related question. Do you think it’s mandatory to get permission from the booker to use photos in your Peerspace listing? I have a couple of recent shoots where I’d love to use stills from the video, but they’re hard to reach to get formal permission. If the videos/photos are public (like on YouTube or the brand site), is formal permission a requirement? I’ve been erring on the side of caution and not posting them, but if I’m being overly cautious and should post them it’d be good to know. Thanks!

Yes, in general someone always owns the rights to the photos. This is how commercial photographers make their money. Most of them not only charge to take the photos but then also license the rights to the photos for a specific use. If the client then wants to use the photos for another purpose, they have to negotiate a new rights usage with the photographer. Some photographers will include ownership of the photo rights upfront so the client can then use them whenever/whereever but then they are usually including the buyout as part of their photography rate.

You could be having trouble getting permission to use the photos because the client you dealt with might not actually own the rights to the photos but only has them licensed for their specific usage. (Although they could refer you to the photographer to purchase your own usage license, but they may prefer to keep them exclusive for themselves).

There are some rules where photos can be reposted to social media for non-business purposes without having rights issues, but in every case where the photos are being used to advertise something (like your space), posting without permission is a no no.
