LA HOSTS: Support this effort to benefit all : STAYINLA.ORG

I’m sharing this link to encourage everyone hosting in Los Angeles to support StayinLA.org. Its an all volunteer team who are organizing and mobilizing LA film/TV community to engage directly with City Hall — showing up, speaking up, and working with City Council so our voices are heard. The goal is simple: make the permitting and filming process in Los Angeles easier, more efficient, and less expensive. A clearer, more workable system benefits all of us who host here. This strengthens the entire hosting community in Los Angeles.

Dear Meredith,

I tried to get support for this a few years ago. The post is titled “

I got very few responses from the Peerspace community and even less from the city. I wrote the letter you see here to every council person in L.A. Only one or two (can’t remember now) even had the thought to respond with a “form letter” saying they will take it into consideration and I never heard back again. Hopefully, your new attempt will prove more fruitful than mine.

Yvonne

Hi Yvonne- this group, StayinLA and KHH (keep hollywood home) was able to work with Councilman Nazarian to introduce 9 motions , the economic committee of the LA city councilman passed the following as is and the last few with some amendments. they will now go to the full city council to be voted on. Its very important that people show up in person to support, it makes a difference. The date of the scheduled vote is TBD but should happen in the next month. I also encourage to email and call your councilmember to support these motions.
25-1498: Free Microshoot Permits
25-1500: City Controller Audit of FilmLA Contract 25-1502: Implementing Mayor’s Executive Directive 11 (reducing the number of city staffers required on set, lowering fees to shoot at the Griffith Observatory, speeding up permit turnaround at the Port of LA, reducing city fees for lower-budget productions, opening up Central Library to filming, making it easier to shoot at
DWP facilities, aligning filming rules with LA County).
25-1503: Soundstage Certification Fast-Track
25-1512: Aligning Filming Rules Across the LA Region
Here’s what passed with amendments (which means more
hurdles and some parts removed altogether):
25-1499: Waiving Fire Spot Check Fee They’re now requiring a report first. City studies can take several months. And they removed the civilian Film Safety Officer
program entirely.
25-1501: Made in LA Branding I believe it now requires a cost/impact report before moving
forward, but stay tuned on the specific of these changes.
25-1508: $1 Parking Lots Now requires a study on how much revenue the city would lose, rather than just implementing it outright. City studies can take
several months.
25-1509-S1: City Film Friendliness They did loosen the neighborhood signature survey requirements, and they’re requiring departments to have more staff available for productions during business hours. But they did NOT remove all special conditions and they struck that part ENTIRELY from the motion. Which means the special condition rules a lot of you have been talking to neighborhood councils
about? Those are still in place, indefinitely.
